National CBD Day 2022

Ken Wright
May 20, 2025

August 8th is National CBD Day and needless to say, we’re here for it! This year marks the fifth anniversary of National CBD Day, so we’re going to share a little history lesson on this new holiday, how we’re celebrating, and a fun surprise! Let’s dive in.

The Origin of National CBD Day

Everyone knows that 4/20 is an important day for cannabis enthusiasts. That infamous day has its roots in California in the 1970s – of course. A group of students heard that there was a cannabis farm growing in the woods near their school, so every day they got together at 4:20 to search for it. They never found the farm, but the time turned into a code that has now become a veritable international phenomenon.

In that spirit, it’s clear that CBD should have its own day, too. An attempt was made to label 7/10 as Cannabis Oil Day, which still puts the focus on cannabis oils and extracts, but comes a bit closer to CBD since CBD oils have become a popular alternative. This one is fun because the day was chosen for a great reason: the number 710 resembles the word OIL upside down.

That brings us to National CBD Day – why August 8th? Why now? The answer isn’t quite as fun as the history of 4/20 or even the choice of 7/10, but we’re still happy it exists! It turns out that anyone can apply to make a national holiday out of virtually any reason, simply by appealing to the National Day Calendar, a North-Dakota based company whose bread and butter is in promoting national holidays and even creating new ones. (You can apply to create national weeks or months through them, as well.) You might be able to guess the rest: a CBD manufacturer applied to make National CBD Day a reality, the future-minded four-person committee at the National Day Calendar voted in favor of their application, and we’re all the better for it.
